The new home faces “inwards” at the street level where views are limited and privacy is paramount. The large corner window peaks at the dining room and provides controlled connection to the street.

Beyond the entrance, the main gathering spaces are organized around a central courtyard. The benefits and joys of a central courtyard are pretty apparent 😄 But to name a few; we deeply considered heat control here (South Bay Sun is no joke!) while opening the home to as much natural light and connection to the outdoors as possible.

Taking inspiration from the indigenous Architecture of the middle-east, the central courtyard is a proven response to these climatic and programmatic challenges.

Moving through the home, we transition from the single-story, introverted expression of the street-facing frontage to an expansive, double-height family room that connects the central courtyard to the lush backyard. The mono-slope roof that is prominent in the street view is no longer visible. Here, a majestic butterfly roof unifies the sprawling second story bedrooms and tethers the family members "under one roof" 🦋
