TYPE: Additional Dwelling Unit TASK: Architecture and New Construction LOT SIZE: 43,500 SF BUILT AREA: 1,132 SF JURISDICTION: Los Altos Hills STATUS: Building Permit
Our brief was to create a new attached ADU at the front of the home that celebrates the existing architecture.
Site and Context
“Liddicoat Residence” was originally designed by our client’s Architect brother over two decades ago.
Concept and Vision
The new 2BR/ 2BA ADU will be the main dwelling for the owners who were looking to down-size and incorporate accessibility features for future aging-in-place comfort.
Architectural Solutions
The architectural strategy for the new ADU focuses on creating a space that bridges the past and future. By employing clean, modern lines and subtle details that echo the original design language, the addition pays homage to the existing home while standing as a testament to contemporary living. Practical features such as integrated storage, flexible spaces, and a highly efficient layout ensure that every square foot is utilized effectively, making the ADU not just an extension but a fully realized dwelling on its own.
